Fully-relativistic N-body simulations

The UNITY simulations are a suite of large-scale structure simulations that include a full set of general relativistic effects on large scales.

About.

The UNITY simulations are a novel suite of 53 fully relativistic simulations generated using the gevolution code. Each simulation covers the full sky out to z = 0.85, and approximately 1930 square degrees out to z = 3.55.

All of the simulations include a relativistic treatment of massive neutrinos, as well as the gravitational potential that can be used to exactly calculate observables on the past light cone.

The simulations are divided into two sets, the first being a set of 39 simulations of the same fiducial cosmology (based on the Euclid Flagship 2 cosmology) with different realisations of the initial conditions, and the second which fixes the initial conditions, but varies each of seven cosmological parameters in turn.

The UNITY project team consists of Dr Phil Bull (PI), Dr Julian Adamek, Louis Coates, Carol Guandalin, and Dr Chris Clarkson.

This work (project dp103) used the DiRAC DIaL system, operated by the University of Leicester IT Services, which forms part of the STFC DiRAC HPC Facility. This equipment is funded by BIS National E-Infrastructure capital grant ST/K000373/1 and STFC DiRAC Operations grant ST/K0003259/1. DiRAC is part of the National e-Infrastructure. In addition, this work was supported by a grant from the Swiss National Supercomputing Centre (CSCS) under project ID s710.

Data access.

The simulation data products are currently hosted by the School of Physics and Astronomy at Queen Mary University of London. While the data are not directly publicly accessible, access and data transfers can be arranged informally by getting in touch with us.

We are happy to discuss possibilities for directly collaborating in the use of these data, but are also happy to make the data products available to independent projects. Please cite the Coates et al. (2020) paper if you make use of the data.

Please contact the PI, Dr Phil Bull, for more information and any inquiries about accessing the data.
